We wish all our friends from the summer season could be here to celebrate Christmas in our Colorado Family Dude Ranch with us. Happy Holidays to you all, from all of us.

A Time for Friends and Family
November 10th, 2010 by 4ur admin
Holidays are on the horizon, and we look forward to reconnecting with far-flung family and friends. For us, it’s a lot like the opening of the season each year at our Colorado guest ranch.
Many of our guests return year after year. We see each others’ children grow. We share exciting moments: a triumphant first ride; the catch of a big fish. In a sense, we are family.
For us, running our guest ranch Colorado is a labor of love. We wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. We have much to be thankful for when Thanksgiving arrives.
Phoenix Peak
November 2nd, 2010 by 4ur admin
Many guests of our Creede Colorado dude ranch look forward to spending one day of their dude ranch vacation hiking the Colorado Rockies. The La Garita Mountains, a high sub-range of the San Juans, are all around us, and provide many outstanding hiking opportunities.
One of these is nearby Phoenix Peak, also called Creede Crest or Gwynedd Mountain. Since it doesn’t have one specific name it is officially known as Unnamed 13895; it is also the second highest unnamed peak in Colorado. Whatever you call it, it is located just south of the continental divide in the La Garita Wilderness of the Rio Grande National Forest.

Rafting on the Rio Grande
October 23rd, 2010 by 4ur admin
Most guests of our Colorado Vacation Ranch come here to fish the Rio Grande River or Goose Creek. Those who do enjoy some of the finest fishing conditions in southwest Colorado. Fishing is certainly our favorite activity on the water, but we have to admit that rafting is also fun.
June is the best time of the year for white water rafting on the Rio Grande, thanks to the spring run off. Rides can be downright thrilling. At other times of the year, rafting is often a quiet and calm experience. It’s a wonderful way to take it a broad swath of the Rio Grande National Forest. If you’re planning a trip to 4UR next summer, consider devoting a few hours to rafting the Rio Grande. It can be a delightful addition to your ranching holiday.
There are several rafting outfitters in South Fork, about 10 miles from our Colorado Dude Ranch Vacation. Guided trips and individual boat rentals are available.

Wheeler Geologic Area
October 12th, 2010 by 4ur admin
Our seasonal staff has moved on to their next adventures, and those of us who stay at the Colorado guest ranch year-round are becoming accustomed to life without our friends and guests.
In the coming months, this blog will focus primarily on the lovely and fascinating area near the Colorado dude ranch. By the time the season re-opens in June 2011, readers should have many ideas on how to fill time when here.
One good example is the Wheeler Geologic Area, formerly known as the City of Gnomes. A National Monument from 1908 to 1950, it is now part of La Garita Wilderness Area, and well off the beaten track. While it is only about ten miles north of Creede, it seems like an entirely different planet. Eerie rock and ash formations jut forth from the earth – remnants of ancient volcanic eruptions by La Garita Caldera. The area is reminiscent of the South Dakota Badlands, but it is nestled in the mountains whereas the Badlands are carved out of the high plains.
Wheeler is accessible by an 8 mile hiking path or an 11 mile jeep trail also suitable for mountain bikes. The antiquity and quiet of the place seems to call for non-motorized transportation, but the gods won’t strike you down for driving in a jeep – the road ends about a half mile from the actual site, anyway. The trail rises to 11,800 feet, so those who venture there should be prepared for all sorts of weather and thin air. That said, a trek to Wheeler Geologic Area would be an incredible addition to a Family Ranch Vacation at our Creede Colorado ranch.

Changing Seasons
September 27th, 2010 by 4ur admin
Our summer season is over. Fall is here. We’ll spend the next several weeks tidying up at our Colorado vacation ranch and preparing for the winter.
Thanks to all who visited our Family Dude Ranch this past summer. We miss you, and will spend the winter remembering great moments at the ranch: fly fishing alone by the river, horseback riding high into the mountains with friends, and laughter at mealtimes. We look forward to seeing you again in 2011.
September at a Colorado Guest Ranch
September 16th, 2010 by 4ur admin
It’s been a wonderful summer here at our Colorado Dude Ranch, filled with much laughter and many adventures. It sure feels like fall now. Daylight temperatures may still be up in the seventies, but at night we are thankful for our warm, heavy blankets and wood stoves.
September tends to be peak fall foliage here in our Creede Colorado Guest Ranch; we are all keeping close watch on the aspen trees. They can be tricky, green one day, yellow the next, and gone shortly after that, but that’s okay. Hikes and trail rides have been spectacular. Anticipating the close of the season, everyone is enjoying each minute to the fullest.
If you find yourself already pining for next year, give us a call and make your reservation. Try visiting at a time when you’ve never been here – like mid September or June – and experience the beauty of the Southern Colorado Rockies in a slightly different way. Each season – indeed, each month and week – is unique.

There is no finer place to reconnect with nature than at our vacation ranch in the southern Colorado Rockies. Come for fly fishing, horseback riding, or just to relax.
Family Dude Ranch Vacations Empower Children
August 3rd, 2010 by 4ur admin
Out here at 4UR Colorado Family Dude Ranch, we are all pretty excited. As anyone who has been here knows, Cole Christensen is the oldest son of ranch managers Aaron and Robin Christensen. Cole recently participated in the National Finals Little Britches Rodeo in Pueblo, where he won second in the world. We are all very proud of him!
Cole’s victory has caused us to reflect on the Kid’s Program at our Family Dude Ranch.
