Winter Update From Our Colorado Guest Ranch

March 4th, 2011 by 4ur admin

February felt like winter here at our Colorado Family Dude Ranch. The temperature dropped considerably and the snow pack increased. When that happens in this state, people head outside with their skis. In fact, several members of our staff did just that, driving to nearby Wolf Creek Ski Area (less than an hour’s drive south of Creede) for several weekends of skiing; Wolf Creek usually has the deepest snow in the state, and we’re lucky it’s so close to home.

Care to warm up in the hot springs?

Closer to home, Robin and the kids enjoyed seeing 3 big bull elk while driving into town for school one morning. They were right off the highway, and you could see their breath and the steam rising from the backs. Amazing. We’re also having fun watching a family of bald eagles that’s settled at our Colorado Vacation Ranch this winter; they roost in the cottonwoods on the compound and in the trees along the creek. It looks like fishing conditions are good, for they seem healthy and well-fed. We’ll take it as a good omen for the summer fish runs.

Hiring for the summer is in full swing. We’re pleased that many of our staff are returning, and we’ve been interviewing quite a few people to fill our openings. We anticipate a good team come opening weekend at 4UR.

Updates from Kids Week at 4UR Ranch

June 14th, 2010 by 4ur admin

We are thrilled with how well our “Kids Stay Free” promotion has turned out. We had 15 kids and 25 adults enjoying horseback riding vacations to start out our season. Of course everyone had a blast and are already hoping to book for next season (have I mentioned that our guest ranch has a return guest rate of over 80%? I get the sense that people really like spending a week or more here during their summer).

There has been a lot of wildlife to observe in the valley this June. Many guests have seen elk, deer and bear. One group of riders even ran into a mother and baby moose. It was exciting for the riders, but I don’t think she was terribly pleased – she thought we were on her turf!

Unlike last summer – when it was wet and green long into June, we are looking for rain this year – it helps to keep the wildflowers blooming longer, and the pastures more plentiful for our horses. However, the weatherman says 50% chance for the next couple days, so that would be great!

The fishing as been going swimmingly thus far (haha) – all of of our stillwater fishing holes are producing great catches. We had multiple trips to the Lost Lakes this week, with staggering results. One group took in more than 65 fish in during their trip. Whoo hoo!

We’ll keep you updated on all the fun that happens during the family ranch vacations here over the next couple months.
