Colorado Hiking and Biking at the 4UR Ranch.

Explore the breathtaking landscapes of the 4UR Ranch on foot or by bike, where miles of scenic trails wind through lush meadows, towering pines, and along the banks of Goose Creek. Whether you prefer a leisurely nature walk or an invigorating mountain bike ride, our trails offer something for every pace and skill level. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the San Juan Mountains, breathe in the fresh alpine air, and discover the wild, unspoiled terrain that makes our ranch a true outdoor paradise.

Guided Hiking

Our Southern Colorado location provides easy access to scenic trails, both on the ranch and in the nearby Rio Grande National Forest. Trails to the west and south lead into the million-acre forest, offering stunning views of the La Garita Mountains and the Palisades cliffs towering over the Rio Grande Rift. Every trail on the ranch takes you through mountain forests, spectacular scenery, and breathtaking vistas.

For a richer experience, we recommend a guided hike. Our guides offer a fresh perspective of the ranch and surrounding area. In summer, you can enjoy Colorado’s wildflowers and shaded Aspen groves, while autumn brings golden, rust, and orange hues, crisp air, and active wildlife.

We offer daily guided hikes ranging from 45-minute nature walks to three-hour picnic hikes in the Weminuche Wilderness, or a seven-hour round-trip hike to Ute Peak, the highest point on the ranch. With a variety of trails, we can match hikes to your abilities and interests.

What to bring: A light day pack, refillable water bottle, hat with a brim, sunglasses, light fleece, sunscreen, comfortable hiking boots, small binoculars, and a camera.

Local Colorado Mountain Biking

We offer complimentary bikes for kids during their stay. If you’re an avid mountain biker, bring your own or rent from San Juan Sports in Creede (719) 658-2359. Many trails and roads in the Goose Creek Valley are suitable for mountain biking, offering spectacular views and challenges, though they are not specifically groomed for biking.

Biking in Creede, Colorado: For experienced bikers, the popular 17-mile Bachelor Loop Road offers a challenging ride with historical sites and beautiful views. The high point reaches 10,000 feet on Bachelor Mountain. The loop is typically ridden clockwise, which minimizes climbing in the first few miles. Be cautious of tourist vehicles, especially on blind corners in West Willow Canyon.

Biking in the San Luis Valley: For groomed trails, take a short drive to Del Norte, known for its excellent mountain biking.

What to Bring: Remember your helmet, light day pack, sunscreen, sunglasses, and water bottles, as the sun can be intense at high altitudes. Helmets may be available for rent at San Juan Sports and Kristi Mountain Sports.

Through Kristi Mountain Sports (719) 589-9759, you can rent a “Specialized” bike, with professional fitting and adjustments based on your weight and riding ability. They also offer free, up-to-date, GIS maps of single track routes on the western side of the valley.
