What to expect during your Colorado Vacation:
Whether this is your first 4UR vacation or a return trip, we’d like to suggest a few items to help you make the most of your stay.
Located at 8500 feet in the San Juan Mountains, the 4UR Ranch can experience changing temperatures and bright sunshine. Be prepared for these conditions by dressing in layers—bring a light fleece, jacket, comfortable tops and pants, and a hat. UV-protective shirts are also a great option for high-altitude sun exposure.
With plenty of outdoor activities, we recommend bringing a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, sunglasses, and a light rain jacket for afternoon showers.
The Ranch Store:
The Ranch Store offers a curated selection of gear and apparel, including Patagonia, Sage, and Fish Pond. Find fishing equipment, UV clothing, T-shirts, sweatshirts, fleece, caps, and water bottles, along with essentials like toothbrushes, sunscreen, and toiletries for any last-minute needs.
For the Anglers:
The 4UR Ranch is known for its exceptional fly fishing, so if you plan to fish, be sure to bring your rod, vest, waders, hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, refillable water bottle, and a net large enough for a sizable trout. If you’re new to fly fishing, don’t worry—we’ll lend you waders and a Sage rod for the day.
Our ranch store offers a selection of fishing gear, including shirts, vests, nets, sunglasses, and flies chosen to match the hatches along Goose Creek and the Rio Grande.
If you need something not in our store, we can direct you to Rio Grande Anglers or The Ramble House in nearby Creede, both stocked with gear for fishing the Rio Grande and its tributaries.
Colorado fishing licenses are required and available through the ranch office.

For the Horseback Rider:
Experience the stunning vistas, mountain trails, and forests of the Rocky Mountain National Forest on horseback. If you plan to ride, bring jeans, comfortable riding boots (we can provide loaners if needed), gloves, a jacket, brimmed hat with a keeper, camera, refillable water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, and bug repellent.
We offer a small selection of cowboy boots and hats to loan at the barn. For safety, we don’t allow riding in athletic shoes, sandals, or flat soles that could cause your foot to slip through the stirrup. Riding gloves and cap keepers are available at the ranch store.
For the Hikers:
Hiking at the 4UR Ranch offers endless possibilities with over 3000 acres of land bordering the Rio Grande National Forest. Be prepared for changing mountain weather by layering your clothing. We recommend bringing a light day pack, hiking sticks, a fleece, moisture-wicking non-cotton shirts, refillable water bottle, comfortable hiking boots, good socks, brimmed hat with keeper, sunglasses, sunscreen, and bug repellent.
More Thoughts on What to Bring for Activities:
The Natural Hot Springs: The hot springs are located in an indoor pool at the Little Medicine Spa, next to our outdoor geothermal heated swimming pool. Clothing is required, so bring your swimsuit, sun hat, and sunscreen.
Yoga: Our resident instructor, Chere Waters, offers morning yoga classes twice a week at the pool. Pack comfortable yoga wear, a refillable water bottle, and a light fleece.
Fitness: If you want to stay active, the ranch has a small fitness room with a treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical, bench, free weights, TRX, and mats. If you bring a device for music, please bring earbuds or headphones. For the quiet enjoyment of others, portable speakers and music amplification are not allowed in public areas.
Mountain Biking: Serious bikers should bring their bike, helmet, water bottle, and appropriate biking gear, including fleece and gloves for cooler morning rides.
Dining Attire: While we don’t have a dress code and maintain a casual atmosphere, many guests dress up slightly for fine dining and the Monday night Cocktail Party. We recommend “dressy casual” attire for evening dining.
If you have any questions before your arrival, please call us at 719-658-2202. We look forward to welcoming you!

Amenities Provided:
All guest rooms are provided with shampoo, cream rinse, and hairdryer as well as umbrella, flashlight, ironing board and iron. A guest laundry facility is located at the Little Medicine Spa, and we’ll be happy to help with your laundry during the week should the need arise.
The ranch has good fiber optic internet service, however, at present we do not have cell service. Also, please note that rooms do not have telephones or televisions. There is a large screen television in the game room, and telephone landlines for guest use are located in the Lodge at no charge.
If you choose to bring a personal device for business, music, or entertainment, please bring earbuds or headphones. Out of respect for other guests, and to enjoy the quiet of the mountains, we don’t allow portable speakers, speaker phones, and or sound amplification in public areas.
