Vacation With or Without Kids

There are two types of vacations: those with children, and those without children. At 4UR all-inclusive Colorado Guest Ranch, you can have either type.

During most of the season, it’s true, we are a Family Vacation Ranch. Children love to come here and go horseback riding, swimming, and hiking. They enjoy art and craft programs, nature explorations, and cookouts. While here, kids have lots of time to explore and spend time with other children (in both structured and unstructured activities), and lots of time to explore and spend time with their parents.

We still have space available during our TWO FOR ONE KID’S SPECIAL, June 9-16, 2012. If you bring two children aged 9 and under to our Family Dude Ranch that week, you’ll only pay for one of them.

Of course, some folks like to vacation without children. These are parents who need a break, parents whose kids are grown, and folks who aren’t parents at all. They enjoy sitting by the pool with a Corona in hand, without danger of being splashed by frolicking children. They like to linger over dinner and conversation, without worrying about getting the kids to bed.

Children and 4UR Colorado Family Dude Ranch

We’re in the middle of the first Two For One Kids Special week here at our Creede Colorado Dude Ranch, and it’s really fun. Everyone at the ranch enjoys the company of children, from Kids’ Counselor Kali to Andi and Becky (waitstaff). This means parents and children can relax while their here.

Damon is a man of many talents.

Our Kids Program fills 6 hours each day. Children start most days with a horseback ride, which is a central part of our Family Dude Ranch Vacations. They swim, ride bikes, hike, play games, and try their hands at fly fishing, too. Parents can spend six hours fishing on Goose Creek or take long trail rides, secure in the knowledge that their kids won’t even think to look for them.

Kids love roasting marshmallows over an open fire and listening to Damon pick a song on his guitar. They feel accomplished when their parents watch them perform in a rodeo. They make new friends, bond with siblings, and generally have a great time. The hardest part is leaving.

There will be another Two For One Kids Special at our Creede Colorado Fly Fishing Ranch the week of August 13-20, 2011, and we’ll probably offer them again next year. Contact us to learn more about it. No matter when you come, your kids will feel special.

Updates from Kids Week at 4UR Ranch

We are thrilled with how well our “Kids Stay Free” promotion has turned out. We had 15 kids and 25 adults enjoying horseback riding vacations to start out our season. Of course everyone had a blast and are already hoping to book for next season (have I mentioned that our guest ranch has a return guest rate of over 80%? I get the sense that people really like spending a week or more here during their summer).

There has been a lot of wildlife to observe in the valley this June. Many guests have seen elk, deer and bear. One group of riders even ran into a mother and baby moose. It was exciting for the riders, but I don’t think she was terribly pleased – she thought we were on her turf!

Unlike last summer – when it was wet and green long into June, we are looking for rain this year – it helps to keep the wildflowers blooming longer, and the pastures more plentiful for our horses. However, the weatherman says 50% chance for the next couple days, so that would be great!

The fishing as been going swimmingly thus far (haha) – all of of our stillwater fishing holes are producing great catches. We had multiple trips to the Lost Lakes this week, with staggering results. One group took in more than 65 fish in during their trip. Whoo hoo!

We’ll keep you updated on all the fun that happens during the family ranch vacations here over the next couple months.

We know you are busy – believe me, we know! And sometimes, that one week that you get during the summer when the kids are off can be one of the best opportunities for quality time together.
The staff here at 4UR Ranch knows all about the value of family. If you keep up with us on Facebook, than you get a chance to hear about the recent adventures and accomplishments of Cole & Ky, our General Manager’s children. And don’t be surprised if you see Pete & Lindsey Leavell’s grandchildren running around during your horseback riding vacation. You will also probably meet Andy Lee’s family, our head guide. All our staff love to have their families with them in this majestic little valley as much as you will.

4UR Ranch has always been family-oriented, and we are trying to encourage more family time during Kids Stay Free weeks during June 5 -12 and Aug. 14-21.

Can you believe that it is more than half way through February? Spring is going to arrive at the guest ranch before we know it. It is still plenty snowy and cold up here, but we are hoping the worst of it is behind us now.

As we start to think about spring and guest arrival, we think you should be also. Have you made plans with your family for some time away, together? Take advantage of an amazing deal for a horseback riding vacation with your kids – for free! Our head wrangler Damon takes good care of all our riders old and young. He selects other qualified wranglers to help him work with the kids riding program. We have all different types of horses at 4UR for our different levels of riders.
